Some men are born to greatness, others have greatness thrust upon them. Novas are a little of both.
Kurt is known to not really care about the big picture in certain situations. Whether its trying to promote storming into a country and taking down the current leader, to something like feeling that all death row inmates should be shot where they stand, he's a bit simple when it comes to politics and the law. He gets deeply involved in more personal matters, however, and has even been known to obsess to the point of freezing when it comes to important personal matters.
Kurt was born to a modern family...both parents working, never home. They would both work late, and get home too tired to do much of anything with their son or daughter. Determined not to end up like that, Kurt entered the navy as soon as he could sign up. His sister, meanwhile, became a counselor. They still keep in touch, but Kurt rarely mentions his parents, disappointed in how little they seemed to care.
Kurt found his knack in piloting, and worked hard to make his way to the upper ranks of pilots. There, he met and fell in love with his co-pilot, Jasmine a.k.a. 'Jazz'. While on a surveillence mission, they responded to what looked like an ally in distress, only to have their plane destroyed, and both of them badly injured. The Nova that had attacked came back to finish them off, but not before Jasmine informed Kurt that she was carrying his child. Kurt, in a fit of anger, erupted, and attacked the Nova, sending him running. Kurt then collapsed next to Jasmine in the middle of the blazing hot day with no shelter around...
For some people music is a major part of their lives. Others find themselves buried in mathematics or models. Nicholas is both, with a healthy interest in anything he can sink his mental teeth into, but fairly uninterested in the world outside of that. He enjoys blowing up things in experiments just as much as a quiet cup of tea and an interesting chat, or an evening among rowdy physics students in a bar, and is able to fit into all three in the same quiet way.
Nicholas was raised in Kinbyrh, MS, a very small town, by his aunt and uncle. He attended the school there, studied piano, and lived rather uneventfully for most of his life. At 18 he applied to MIT, was accepted, and settled in on financial aid to study structural engineering. In his sophomore year...
While at home visiting his parents for the holidays, Nicholas went shopping with his father. While going into the bank to make a withdrawl he found himself caught up in a bank robbery staged by a lunatic who thought he was a Terragen nova. Images and possibilities started flashing madly in front of his eyes, but he managed to convince the madman to let him work on the bomb that was to kill them. After being shut in, his hands guided by the flashing possibilities circling in his mind, he managed to disarm the explosive. The full range of possibilities of where his life could go appeared before him again, and he passed out...
An odd combination of personality traits, Jeremy can be energetic and vibrant at times, but can easily be sent into a moody funk or a quivering rage. His mood swings are usually held in check, however, as he strives to match the heroic image in his mind, although the fact that he generally falls short of that ideal is yet another source of irritation to him.
Jeremy's mother died in childbirth, and the boy grew up an only child. His father always seemed to harbor some ill-concealed anger towards the boy, as though he blamed him for his wife's death. This anger began to reveal itself more and more as Jeremy grew up. By the time he was twelve he was regularly struck, and often locked in a closet as punishment. Jeremy learned to equate the darkness with his own failings, and was miserable for most of his teen years. His only source of happiness was in fantasizing about medieval times; knights, quests, fair maidens. He snuck out of the house whenever the Renaisance Fair was in town, and played adventure games with others over the OpNet.
At the age of sixteen, Jeremy was in real danger of losing his life from his father's abuses. After one particularly vicious beating, his father locked him in the basement and left for the weekend. By this time Jeremy had developed a terror of the darkness, and as the hours went by, he began hallucinating. He started to talk to the darkness, to hammer out some sort of agreement with it. Somewhere along the way, he erupted, and the darkness really *was* responding to his wishes. When his father arrived back at the house on Monday, he opened the basement door and was overwhelmed with a force of negative energy, some kind of vaporous dark matter... a darkness that moved of it's own volition. Driven by years of anger and fear, Jeremy slew his father, though he didn't realise it until he regained consciousness hours later.
Sharp was born in Los Angeles, California on March 3, 1985. He displayed unusually quick thinking through his early schooling, and caught the attention of the Directive in his early High School Junior year. From there, he was slightly directed in his studies. He was recruited shortly after he graduated from high school, before he could start college at the UCLA, so that he could be trained properly. He graduated from agent training in short order.
Aleister is somebody who honestly enjoys his work, and believes it makes the world a better place. He gets a real thrill out of sneaking through the dark on a mission. He's never killed anybody, and he really doesn't want to. He has, however, shot to wound, when he needed to make an escape. He stays in contact with his family (parents, brother and sister) through letters and occasional phone calls. Interacting with people while not working, he's a reasonably cheerful, outgoing person, but no more so than the next man. His sense of humor tends, definetly, to bad puns.
On a covert mission in Japan, Aleister was assigned to investigate a lab and its suspected Nova-derived technologies. Unfortunetly, the Yakuza also wanted the lab's products, and a Yakuza Nova whom Aleister dubbed as "Ms. Much" was sent to steal the blasters. The super-fast Yakuza Nova exploded a crate, sending Aleister flying. As Aleister lay stunned, he heard her baseline henchmen coming to kill him and Erupted, vanishing from sight.
Nova with No Heart... Lord of the Dead... Corpsegrinder... these sobriquets and many more are given to feral XWF warrior Rob Steele, better known as the Superbeast. Relatively new to the XWF scene, Superbeast has slashed and clawed his way through the contenders' rankings, even gaining a couple of title shots at Core himself.
Out of the arena, Steele appears as any other baseline, albeit one with striking, rugged good looks and a perpetual two-day stubble. When preparing for battle, though, Steele accesses his quantum matrix, transforming himself into a savage, monstrous, semihuman man-beast. In this form, Steele uses his inhuman strength, athleticism and wicked tusks to rend his competition into submission.
Steele's brash charm and looks have made him immensely popular, and he is one of the XWF's most prized draws. A singer of passing ability, Steele (in human form) sidelines as the frontman for a skew-metal band named (conveniently enough) Süperbëast; the band's two albums, Korpsgryndrr and Lord of the Dead, sold respectably, though most critics believe this was due to Steele's XWF rep rather than on their musical merits.
Sango is a shrewd, ruthless man with no intention of letting anyone tell him how to run his country. Despite numerous rumors about him, he is not a nova, nor is he a religious zealot. He is merely determined that his country be run in a certain way, his way. While most of the world looks upon Alafin Sango as a monster, his own people see him as their savior. In a time when the rest of Africa was burning and falling apart, he held the nation together and made it stronger than it was before. At 55 years of age, the man who started off his military career as a grunt in the army has become the leader of his nation and the terror of Africa.
Sango is a charismatic leader, handsome if slightly portly, with a friendly smile and a shrewd mind. He makes regular appearances on television in his country and has complete control of the media. Any delusions about freedom of speech were crushed quickly and mercilessly within weeks of his taking over the country. But there is no doubt in the minds of most of the citizens of Nigeria that he does what he must to keep the nation strong. Though his actions sometimes seem harsh, most tend to look at them as the necessary evils that come with being a good leader. Those who disagree do so in silence or from beyond the grave. Sango dresses in military uniforms, though he no longer answers to the title of general. He is the president of the country and never lets anyone forget that fact.
